Did Nikon just lower the price on this camera

It all seems to indicate to me that they did. Keep in mind that Nikon is not making dSLR bodies any longer and Canon is doing exactly the same thing. Mirrorless are very popular and they pack more technologies than dSLR cameras. The market right now is toward mirrorless.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Nikon refuses servicing old cameras and lenses, depending on how old they are.

I do not use the D850 but I know it is a very good, professional camera.

People keep saying Nikon is not making any dslr cameras anymore, but I don't remember them announcing this. (I might have missed it. The $2200 price it at least a sale. Not sure if it is permanent. It should be supported for around ten years judging by past Nikon support history. 7 years by law.

If a new or used D850 meets your needs buy it if the price is right for you. Just realize to take full advantage of this great camera your F mount lenses need to be top of the line FX lenses. From a Nikon repair standpoint, I would be more concerned about whether Nikon will have any needed replacement parts for AF motors in F mount AF lenses if these would need repair or replacement. I think the Nikon USA sale ends near the end of June 2024.

Ford, Toyota etc never announced that theyre not making any more 2023 models anymore. Sony, Teac etc never anounced that they are not making any tape decks anymore. And yes its true that Nikon never announced that they are not making any SLRs anymore. Likewise with Canon. Acoarst, announcing the obvious would only make sense if looking foolish was reliably well known to increase sales. Lacking an MBA, I can only take a wild guess on that.

TEAC is still making a cassette tape deck. The W-1200 for $499. Car manufacturers may make 2023 models in 2022 but I don't think they ever make 2023 models in 2024.

I seriously doubt if TEAC is actually MAKING any tape decks any more than Nikon actually MAKING any SLRs. What are they spozed to do with left overs, send them to the crusher ?

Well now I don't think TEAC is making them because I think they contract them out but I am sure they are being produced not new old stock. Although the design isn't much different from the old ones there are features (for better or worse) that indicative that they are of new design. (USB interface to computer as well as no Dolby are the telltale that it's a new design)

Nikon lowers the price on the D850 from time to time. It appears they have $800.00 off currently on the body. I do not know when they will do this again. Maybe again, maybe this is the last time.
No one knows, if the price is right for you, then maybe it is time for you to buy it. If not, you could wait and see if they will reduce the price of the D850 again. If they reduce it again. No one knows for SURE.

Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
