Even with a gimble, I think that tripod would be too limiting. I may try a monopod to see how it works. But I like to get birds flying, I am not sure that would help.

Yes, the Nikon is heavy. Sometimes I use my old Sigma 140-500. It is lighter and I think that it is almost as good.
I was thinking of using a monopod, don't know if I want the tripod, as most of what I take is fast-moving. But I have the same problem.
