I have a 7D with Canon's efs 15-85 is and the ef 70-200 f4 L is.
I'm quite happy with this setup but the 15-85 although a very good lens and one of the best 'walking around' lenses I've had doesn't quite match up to the quality of the 70-200.
I understand crop factor and the trade offs with the differences in focal length but I would really appreciate some feedback on the image quality I can expect to see from the ef 24-105 L is compared with the ef 70-200 f4L is &/or the efs 15-85.
How good is this lens? Your .02 much appreciated.
I can't compare it to the 70-200 but I bought this 24-105 L
a few weeks back for my Canon T3i. I have a 18-55mm kit
and a EF 70-300. I use the 24-105 in school use and as my
walk around lens. I love how sharp it is and the colors are a
lot better than my 18-55. I ordered a 7D this morning and
can't wait to try this lens with it. I used it to shoot my granddaughters graduation invitations and we were well pleased. You can search for those under Papa's Girl. Hope this helps, I
got mine after checking the reviews and asking the folks here on
the forum. You will get a lot of other opinions here also. mdh
You are going to love the 7D. It is a superb camera. I had a T1i and bought a 40D as a second body. The build quality and handling spoiled me for the 60D and I haven't had the slightest regret in forking over the hard earned extra $$$ for the 7D.
PS You'll find the 7D works very well for the low light conditions typical for indoor school functions. I use PhotoShop Elements to edit and regardless of whether I shoot RAW or jpegs I always use the Adobe Camera Raw editor for initial editing. This allows for great recovery of shadows & highlights and in addition the sharpening and noise reduction tools in this are outstanding and leave little more to do in the main editor.
Thanks, and I think you will fill the same way about the 24-105 L
mdh
I also got a 24-105L lens some time back. It hardly ever leaves my camara body. You will love it.

I have a refurbished 7D (from the Canon factory) & use a 24-70mm f2.8L as my walk around lens for it. It's a fantastic piece of glass.
The EF 24-105 f/4L will have almost (remember, almost) the same image quality as the EF 70-200 f/4 L. On my cropped frame Canon, I started with the kit lens and quickly went to the EF-S 15-85mm. There was a day and night difference between the two lens. The EF-S 15-85mm became my walk around lens. I had the opportunity to get the EF 24-105mm f4/L lens and again there was a definite increase in image quality. The difference was enough that friends who were not photo enthusiasts could notice. You will lose a bit of wide coverage with the 24-105mm.
I bought the 24-105 when purchasing my Canon 5DII several years ago. It is my walk around lens and the one I use probably 90+ percent of the time. The IQ is, in my opinion, excellent.
i have a 28-105mm,and in a pinch i could hook it up with a 2x teleconverter for 56-210mm and do fine on bright or sunny days.
24-105 L lens is to date my only L glass and I really like it. It rarely leaves my camera. Have been watching the threads on this lens since I bought it and don't recall a negative comment.

The 24-105 f/4 is my favorite lens.
The 24-105 is a very good sharp lens.
It does need a lot of light compared to my 70-200 2.8, but used with a speedlite set for TTL really does make a difference.
Thanks Hogs. I very much appreciate the feedback, so much so in fact that I've just returned from buying one!
Now to go and 'test' it;-)
