Does anyone know of a product that enhances the range of a zoom lens. i.e changes a 70-200 zoom to a 50-300 or some such similar. Couldn't find anything but thought I should ask.
I thank all who answer.
Canon has both a 1.4 extender and a 2X.
The 1.4 increases focal length by 40%. In other words it makes a 200mm lens a 280, and a 300mm a 420.
It also decreases maximum aperture by one stop.
So a 300 f4 lens with a 1.4 extender attached becomes a 420 5.6
On some lenses the 2X will interfere with AF operation.
I often use the Canon 1.4 extender III with what I feel are excellent results.
I prefer to use an extender on a prime rather then a zoom lens, although good results can be achieved using Canon's 70-200 2.8 zoom.
Could you pleae tell me, will these extenders work on a Canon XTi camera?
It's more a matter of working with your particular lens, because some extenders have protrusions that mechanically interfere with the rear elements of the lens. Tamron extenders do not have this problem.

If you use a 2x extender on a closeup [for instance 18mm] lens will that correct the curvature as well make the subject appear closer?
Thanks for your response. I need look for a lens that will take an extender then, right. I currently mainly use the Canon 24 - 105 L lens, would that take an extender do you know?

If you aren't getting an answer then the best thing to do is to call B&H [ or any of the others], customer service and ask them. They will tell you the facts as they know them.
Ah Ok, thanks for theinfo Kenpa
