What lens to buy!

Before I start I'm going to apologise for revisiting this topic but I really can't find a lens that fits what I need.
Some will have heard me whining about the poor focusing of the Canon 6D. Best advice to whiners is shut up and do something - so I have - I sold it today, with the EF 24-105 L it came with. Now to replace it
My want list :
1) Rapid to acquire focus and take the image.
2) At least 6 fps rapid shooting.
3) Good high ISO performance
4) Well built and weather resistant.
5) Handling I like.
Canon are supposed to be releasing a new 7D Mkll at Photokina and the spec list that it is expected to have, meets my needs. http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/08/are-these-the-eos-7d-mark-ii-specifications/
Now the problem. I need a high quality walk around lens that has stabilisation and weather sealing. My preferred zoom range will be from 18-24 up to 80-130. An aperture of f4 or thereabouts is fine, I'm not particularly interested in f 2.8 for weight and cost reasons.
Ideally I would like something that is sharper and slightly wider than the EF 24-105 L and I've spent a lot of time looking but I can't see anything from any manufacturer that comes any closer to my wish list.
Note I do want weather sealing as I live in a dusty environment and this appears to eliminate Tamron and Sigma from my consideration.
I'm open to at least considering other makes although that would mean replacing my greatly loved EF 70-200 L f4 is and it might be hard to afford a new body and 2 new L class lenses all at one go.
There probably isn't a solution but if anyone can think of one I'd love to hear it.
Please no brand sniping. I have no axe to bear in this regard.

If you are shopping for a 7D then money isn't an issue but I just bought a D7100 that may fit your needs and with the money you save on the camera body you could buy one hell of a lens. Just a thought...

If you have a 70-200L, stick with the Canon. Is a 5D3 out of the price picture? The 6D is a very good camera.

If you want weather sealed lenses then you are going to have to stay with L lenses and even with the L lenses they are not all weather sealed, Canon does make a couple of high quality EF-S lenses for that camera, specifically the 10-22 and the 17-55 are both exceptional but neither are weather sealed, I like my 15-85 just fine but it is not supposed to be of the same quality as the 17-55 which is a constant 2.8 so it will focus quickly and accurately, it is not so heavy either.

You might consider the EFS lenses and then-place them in plastic zip lock bags if dust is that big of a problem. The problem with the L lenses is that really none of them are very wide on the 7D because of the smaller sensor the angle of view is less than it is for the same lens on your 6D, that 24mm end of your lens becomes 39mm.

Sounds to me like you are ready for a Nikon D810 and Nikon 24-120mm F4G VR Nano. ;-) ;-)

Rob, If you're thinking of waiting for the new 7ll, then I suggest you just be patient and wait and see if there are not some new lenses announced along with it.
the new 7ll should be quite a machine, so it's only logical that there may be some new glass for it as well. If not some of the companies such as Sigma or Tamron may come through as well and for less money.
There's not much reason to put the cart before the horse!
I assume you still have an old body to use in the meantime? Good Luck

I actually have the 15-85 on a T1i that my wife uses sometimes. I really like the price / performance ratio on on the 24-105 and carried it all round our recent vacation on the 7D I had then - I managed fine but an option that gave just a little more at the wider end would be nice.
It'd be nice if everything wasn't a compromise :-D
Oh - I'm not wild about plastic bags either
I'd been wondering about the 17-55 ............

The 6D is a terrific camera as long as you don't need to focus instantly on something. (I can't believe Canon would only one lousy cross point sensor in it!). I tried it because of the less than stellar high ISO performance on the 7D I was using. I've also found I miss the increased range of my lenses from the APSC sensor. Of course I also miss the better wide angle performance I was getting from the 24-105 on the 6D.
It's the old story I want all and I ............
Yes the 5D is a bit spendy for my budget.

You make sense. I do have the T1i + 15-85 that my wife uses and I plan on stealing that tomorrow for a car show in Old Town.

Did you ever calibrate and micro adjust the camera and lens?
(Your experience is not typical, especially with the popular 24-105mm L.)

Wait for the new 7Dii, if it fail's to arrive soon, know my Canon 5D3 is like a machine gun, focusing almost instantly as fast as I can move the camera from one subject to the next, and if it get's stolen, I will certainly be getting another one. Take a look at Canon's 24-70 F2.8ii just for the colour's it produce in photo's, 5D3 has great ISO performance and weather sealed...
Yes the 5d3 is very expensive but one hell of a camera. Or is the D810 calling to you......

A video well worth watching. Advice is honest and fair. Thanks!
My only quibble is the focus on megapixels while ignoring pixel quality. Pixel generation is easy (witness any current generation smart phone), but pixel quality is equally if not more important.
Not convinced? Take a look at the top of the line professional Canon 1Dx (18MP) and Nikon D4 (16MP) each costing over $6,000 for just the body.
Having a zillion pixels is not worthwhile if pixel quality is not there.

That's why I upgraded to the 5D3.

The new 7DMKii is rumored to have a price tag north of $2000. A new 5D3 can be had for south of $2500 (Almost always grey market). Since the new 7D should be announced in a week to 10 days you might as well wait and see the final specs and price before making a decision.

This would be a great opportunity to switch to the superior resolution, dynamic range, focus system and handling of the Nikon D610 with a 24-120 F4. Has all the features you requested above and should fit the budget! Image quality from the D610 is outstanding.
