My problem relates to sending an image from LR to PS - and back.
Making this enquiry reminds me that I've missed seeing posts from Searcher lately. Is he well? Does anyone know?
I am using CC on a Win 10 machine. My wife is using an identical Dell Optiplex 750 and is using Win 7. Our CC shows no Updates available.
When I use Ctrl E to send an image to PS and do my edits and then Ctrl S to bring it back into LR annoyingly they always appear at the end of filmstrip with the original and not in the original place in line.
I have always disliked this quirk of LR-PS-LR until my wife announced that as of a few weeks ago she no longer has this happen. Send to PS, edit and then Save back and it appears right back in the position it came from. Panoramas are put back with the originals. Nice!
I had some issues with CC which Adobe were unable to fix At their direction Adobe Cleaner was used to remove CC, I installed Win 10 and completely reinstalled both programs and CC. We are both using current versions but hers, apparently spontaneously, is now placing the images where they belong and mine continues to stick them at the end of the filmstrip.
What do I need to do to get mine to return to their original place in line after my edits?

Are you, by chance, sorting by something other than file name. If you have your sort selection set to something like most recent, or something time related, that would sort the files in that manner rather than file name.

I spent some time looking a few weeks ago and found not a clue. At one point, months ago, he came back from an extended health related absence. But, then he disappeared again.

Check your sorting order, bottom of the grid view page in Lightroom.

For me, the Library module defaults to "Added Order". I usually change that to "File Name" to get LR->PS->LR things to show up next to their sources.
I haven't found a way to get it to default to file name instead of added order. When I change it, it stays that way until I import something. Then it switches back to the added order sort.

On my Mac, with Lightroom CC 2015.3, I can change the sort order and it remembers what it was changed to when Lightroom restarts.

My Win version does that too, but reverts to added order when I import something.

The import screen has it's own sorting selection - I wonder if changing the import sorting effects the library view sorting?
I will give that a try on my Mac.

EDIT: Nope, import sorting order did not change grid view order in Library module.

THanks for trying. I hadn't noticed the sort on the import screen (it was "off" ). I tried it too on Windows with the same result.

I read about a font bug that Lightroom has had with Windows... cannot make use of .OTF fonts on a windows machine, but will use them on a Mac.
Apparently this has been around for some time now.
The sort setting retention may be another bug for Windows versions.
To repeat the OP's first question, has anyone heard from Searcher??

Answer to get them back in line next to the original in Lightroom after Photoshop edit:
Go to the Lightroom Preference Menu and Select "External Editing" in the panel that opens and down near the bottom will be "Stack with original" and make sure that is checked and that should take care of the problem for you.
Many thanks to everyone for their help.
I really value and appreciate this site and our contributors.

Did you get your problem resolved?
It would be nice to know if it was from what anyone told you.

Searcher appears to still be registered on the site. If there are no privacy issues, perhaps Admin could shed some light on his status. Or a PM to him might get a response. I certainly hope he is well.
