Canon SX50 Twice As Nice

Hello everyone,

When my first SX50 failed after many years of excellent service I purchased a more current Nikon offering. While I'll keep the Nikon, I found I really missed the SX50 and recently purchased my second. The Canon SX50 remains the very best point-and-shoot camera I've ever owned.....twice!

Those are all very nice! Really like the last one! Well, it was last, the Water Lilly! Ok you keep adding more!! The first last Water Lilly, but the ones you keep adding are nice too

Now you are making me jealous. I bought the Canon SX 60 & I don't think it is as good as the SX 50.

Hi Photolady2014,

Glad you're "continuing" to like them! Yes, they're incredibly beautiful flowers. I own the Canon G11, Canon SX40 & SX50 (twice!) and the Nikon P610. If I had to choose just one it'd be the SX50!

Really beautiful images as always, Tony. You manage to nail those eyes perfectly every time. Your flower images are really great, too. Thanks for posting.

the sx50 does seem to outperform the sx60 by a wide margin

Very nice, Tony!
Did you shoot in auto or manual?

Thank you, Wendy. I typically shoot in Manual or Shutter Priority Mode. I've never used Auto Mode. All of my bird and wildlife photos were taken hand-held.

Beautiful photos Tony. Someday I'd love to let you take out my Nikon P600, and use it the same way as you normally do. I feel this camera gets short shrift, and for the life of me, I can't understand why. For a P&S, the SX50 keeps getting all the attention. I've used both, and I found the P600 to treat colors and depth much better.

Hi Bob,

While I do enjoy my P610, my preferred camera remains the SX50. We've discussed how "accuracy" in an image isn't the main motivation behind my photography. I always have a specific image in mind of how I want the photograph to look well before I press the shutter. I can do this much more consistently with my SX50. For the style of photography I favor the SX50 is simply more dependable for my needs. Both cameras are fine examples of the technology achieved and provided by the manufactures so it's a nice "problem" to have owning both!

Those are great images!!!

You do so well with the SX50 that I think you should write a book, well pamphlet on its use, esp flowers and birds. I know you did an essay, somewhere I have a copy saved. But we need a longer piece that I can give my wife to go with her SX50.

Yes, 3 1/2 decades of teaching made me very good at thinking of things to keep other people busy. And became an ingrained habit in the process.
