I think you need to be very specific about the problem --- what happens when you attempt to upgrade, what error messages are you getting, if any, is your computer hanging or locking up?

Will it NOT install because it's not letting you "register" it?

I have a notice from Windows that my computer is ready to download Windows 10. So when I hit download I get this page saying that my computer is up to date and is downloading windows 10. 15 hours later the green bar is still indicating that is still downloading but it shows 0 files downloaded. REJ.

Reboot then try again after turning off any antiviral programs.
In addition, download only when all other programs are closed.
Also check if you have enough space on your hard-drive to download.

You have my sympathy. I spent every day for over a month online with MS help, trying to get it installed. I have six pages of back and forth, and nothing has worked. I didn't even get as far as you did because I have a Reserved Partition problem.

I ordered a new drive, and I will install that and do a clean install of Windows 10. The new drive should arrive on Tuesday. If that works, I'll have to reinstall the old drive and deactivate several programs so I can install them on the new drive.

My personal opinion of Windows 10 Is I wish I hadn't done it. Now if I can get the nerve to just go back to good ol'Windows 7.

Gentlemen, something a little along these lines. I am in the market for a new computer. I currently have Windows 7. Should I purchase a new computer with Windows 10, or stick with 7? How long before they stop supporting 7?
Thanks for any help!

Go to this Microsoft page and click upgrade.
I was having the same issue on one of my computers and this is what worked for me.

Go with the 10. I have it on 2 computers here at the house and they are the most stable OS I've used in years and I have a lot of heavy duty software on one of the systems. Some people will have problems with uploading due to problems associated with prior upgrades but they can all be corrected with the proper instructions.

If you're buying a new computer, you may not be able to find what you want with Win7. I went from 7 to 8 to 8.1. I hesitate to go to Win10, but it's the wave of the future. I have an older Dell running it, and it's been okay, although it takes a bit of learning. Reports about Win10 have generally been good, although you may have to update some drivers.

All of these problems with Windows operating systems which is why I use Mac's, and don't get started on security issues that windows has and Macs don't and never did.

Just thought of this do you have DSL for your internet service or is it dial-up --- it could be that you're getting a lot of droped connections preventing a clean download. You might even need to up-date your modem.

Right. The Mac can wipe the disc and do a clean install in just a few minutes. I've done that with two machines I wanted to clean up.
