Since it is your first camera, see what is on sale in the price point you can afford. Ask your friends who have DLSRs what they own. Canon or Nikon are pretty much the same, it is the technician behind the lens that creates the magic.

That depends on if you want a camera or a cell phone.

Well, for starters, welcome.
Nokia makes phones so either you really misspelled Nikon or your spell check has a bizarre sense of humor.

You ask a loaded question that can't be answered without a whole bunch of other questions.
You will be asked how much you want to spend.
You will be asked what kind of pictures are you interested in.
You will be told there are other choices than, as "they" call them, Canikon.
You will be asked your experience level.
The list goes on. Are you a beginner? Do you want to start out with something easy or a little more advanced? How much time and resources are you willing to put forth?

There is no simple answer to that question.

Welcome to the Hog Sherry.
See what some people use and how they like them and why, then check them out at DPReview.com. Figure out what you would want to be able to accomplish with the camera and what would meet those needs.
Then I'd recommend going to a store and hold the different models you may be interested in and see how they feel and how the controls work (ergonomics) for you. You don't want to get a camera that doesn't "fit" because it may wind up spending a lot of time on the shelf.

Which is better. Coke or pepsi.

What type of pictures are you wanting to take, any specifics or walk around pictures .

There are groups that would be willing to walk you through your decision an your observations.

Go to meetups.com for your local area. Then type photography. People are always happy to explain what they have learned. An what they wished they had known. Go on a group shoot see what comes of it.

Now that's a silly question. Everyone knows coke is better, unless Pepsi is on sale, or is it, Pepsi, unless coke is on sale. No matter, diet Mt dew from the folks at Pepsi and my personal favorite, Fresca, from the folks at coke.

I suppose you meant Nikon not Nokia, although smart phones can take excellent images.

The best camera either Canon or Nikon depends wholly on who you ask and what they use. Go to your nearest camera store, if you have one, or go to Costco or Best Buy. Try the base model of each camera (Nikon 3300) or Canon (T-6) and see which one feels better in your hand. Costco usually has better prices than Best Buy. Best Buy will match Amazon prices. Take your time because this decision may well last you for the remainder of your photographic endeavors for years to come. Good luck.

It has been a great ride tho! Hope you find one and post your first shots for us.:)
