When I click on this link, my {Windows} computer reports having downloaded a file with name ending in
..rits.pps
and my computer has no idea of what to do with that kind of file.

It is a power point file. You must have power point viewer installed. It's a free download. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13

Oh, I have full PowerPoint installed on this computer - but my Microsoft O/S didn't recognize the document as such {but my iPhone did recognize it when I tried it this morning}

That's interesting and a bit confusing. I have had Win 10 since Aug. 2015. No issues with Powerpoint files. I'm happy to hear you were able to view it. You did download it, right?
