I joined the Canon crowd with my purchase of the T3i. This was the limit of my budget at this time, but it is sure working well for me. For years I worked with a Kodak DX7590 and the Kodak P880. I am posting my first photo on the forum and with your friendly assistance I hope to make my learning curve a bit easier.

You made an excellent choice. From all I can read, it produces outstanding photos that are equal to the 7d. If just doesn't have quite as many bells and whistles, most of which I don't know how to use anyway.

Thanks gym, being retired my budget is limited and a couple years ago I tried the D50 but was a bad outing so I sold it on eBay. This one is a jewel right out of the box.
Here is one more photo from today that I was pleased with.

The subject was the purchase of a new camera and request for tips on its use; the pictures were incidental.

You make my point. OP will obtain more help in
Photo Gallery than on page 2 or 3 of Main Photography Discussion forum.
You made a great choice. I have the same camera and love it.

I also have a T3i. You will not regret your purchase. When I bought my 7D, I was going to sell the T3i, but I like it so much I could not part with it. Your first photos with it are very good.
Thank you all for the encouraging comments, I am thrilled with the camera. I suffer from tremors badly and I am impressed that I can get these photos hand held. I could not bring my tripods or monopods with me on my trip to San Angelo, so it makes for an interesting test of the camera's I.S. capabilities. Plus, it just feels so good in my hands. I am finding, however, that I will need something better than the neck strap for my long walks with this camera. Does anyone have any good recommendations?

What I did before buying a strap- I went to Main Photography Discussion and did a search for 'camera straps'. You will get plenty of options.
I purchased a doubled terry cloth headband at sports authority cut it in half and hand stitched the ends so they didn't ravel. I then threaded the canon strap thru it to make a softer and sweat absorbant strap. It can be taken off to wash it and thrown away and replaced rather cheaply. This was my hubby's idea as here in SE Florida with the humidity my neck was always sweating with the neck strap alone.

That is a thought, I will keep that in mind. I was thinking more along the lines of a harness or holster rig if they are not to expensive
