While out in West Texas in early June I managed to get this photo and I can't figure out what I am seeing, help please. I don't see this bird in East Texas.
I would if I could see it better...from the distance it resembles a yellow tailed fencehugger...very rare in this part of the US

Cute, see if this helps any
Looks like a Western Kingbird. Does it perch high, then dart out and catch insects on the fly? Have a high-pitched twitter?
I do not know, I was out taking a walk when I spotted it sitting on the fence. I got this one shot before it took flight and never saw it again before returning home.

I just looked at the information associated with this bird, and I think you may have nailed it, thank you for helping me add this lovely bird to my Life List.
We live in one of the few areas where the Eastern and the Western Kingbird territories overlap. The Western is more colorful. They're such pretty little things, and so much fun to watch. Helpful birds, too -- they gobbled up bugs by the thousands. :-)
It is a shame they did not call East Texas home this summer as we had a bumper crop of crickets and grass hoppers. They could have dined well this year.
