Well, let the fun begin - looking ofrward to endless pages of debate and pontificating on this new device looking for some crowd funding

Here is the Kickstarter page describing it

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samellos/micro-mirrorless-yashica-im-back?ref=vnu6pg&mc_cid=ad9c2dbe1b&mc_eid=da81c7cd6b

I do not see any technical specifications, but if an 8.6 MM lens is "normal" I am going to guess it uses a cell phone's camera chip.

Why not buy any of the numerous offerings from Canon (Powershots) or Sony (Cybershots) for a pocket-sized digital model with numerous zoom focal length options? Whoopee dipty dooo on the 'benefit' of a limited selection of interchangeable lenses. Given the lower cost (about $400), I'd seriously question the long-term survivability of these products, aka value for money.

Well, pardon me all to pieces for offending your sensibilities - as this is neither a resource nor a link to some techniques, but rather an attempt at creating an entirely new camera using a once respected brand name (Yashica), and given the proclivity of so many members evidently liking to opine on such things, it seemed general discussion was more appropriate.

I am not a fan of this camera and have no intent on "investing", but I imagine at least a few of the members will find in intersting or amusing or pathetic or whatever. So it's a stab at opening horizons, i guess you could say.

I wonder why Kyocera would let them use the name Yashica for a few bucks?

From Wikipedia:
Yashica Co., Ltd. was a Japanese manufacturer of cameras, lenses, and film editing equipment active from 1949 until 2005 when its then-owner, Kyocera, ceased production. It acquired the lens manufacturer Tomioka (Tomioka Optical Co., Ltd).

In 2008, the Yashica name reappeared on cameras produced by the Hong Kong-based MF Jebsen Group. In 2015, trademark rights were transferred to Yashica International Company Limited and appointed 100 Enterprises International Group Co. Limited as Yashica Global Sole Agent.

Sad to see what has happened to the Yashica brand. I used a Yashica twin-lens reflex on the high school newspaper when I was a kid (long ago!). Can't believe I used to shoot football and basketball with that!

It's an attempt to raise money. Whatever the reason this is not the right section. IMHO

"humble"? Somehow I don't think you know the meaning of that word, sir.

I am not trying to raise money - I have nothing to do with the product, nor do I plan to attempt to get one. But as a piece of photo gear with a brand name many recognize, I thought it might be of general interest to some on this forum.

The OP’s post is not an attempt to raise money. By your logic anybody that posts about a new product shouldn’t put it here because every product made is “an attempt to raise money”

I saw that today and checked it out. It’s a 12mp sensor and the equivalent focal lengths of the lenses are 27mm, 50mm and 150mm with future adapters to use other manufacturers lenses. So a 200-600 would be about 624-1884 equivalent. Anyway, it’s not for me. They’re targeting the cellphone market. We’ll see how that works out for them.

What am I missing here? My rx100 is mirrorless at the same size or smaller. Canon, Panasonic and a few other "proven" cameras offer better options within the same size. (More MP too.)They solved a problem that doesn't exist. Someone will bite.

Oh CHG-CANON, everyone knows that Sony's offerings are actually better.

It will be interesting to see how this develops. White does not seem like a good color choice, though. If it's going to compete with GoPro, considering the size and shape, it will have to lower the price. I'll wait for productions and reviews.

Back then , yashica was a descent product . I wonder if this new camera is a little too small .
