Buy a hard case with an extension handle and wheels. Pelican makes a great one and it fits into an airplane overhead compartment. I have taken mine on many trips.
Wheels for certain, but I had a Thinktank airport rolling case, and even that didn't go in the overhead on the CRJ's. (In fact, one time, when the wheels were not letting the bin door close easily, the stewardess threatened that if I broke the door, the flight would be delayed until it could be fixed. An airport worker catching a hop came to my rescue.) So I started carrying a small case within a standard carry-on luggage so that I could bag check at the gate and lift my cameras out in the smaller bag to fit under the seat. It's not just the camera gear, I also carry a notebook with the itineraries and photo op destinations, and a GPS preloaded with my destinations. I've been working on how to travel efficiently for 20 years. lol! Lifting a bag into the overhead is a bear now, so gate checking is looking more attractive all the time. I am determined to keep traveling as long as I can--even if it means eventually using a phone.
Incredibly detailed analysis and startling findings. I have been using DXOMark for researching my equipment for years, but never comparing apples to oranges. Thanks for sharing, ASTROBOO.
