It seems like this year is BLOOM year Kathy and I'll bet we'll see more of these beautiful photos when you go back. They look like they are all at the same stage or maybe only a day apart for a few. Can't wait to see.
I had some in Tn that were yellow with maroon centers. Love them.
What you describe, Jo, sounds exciting. Most of ours are yellow to red and about anything in between, but not multi-coloured. I realize that I only have a few days leeway, and it's sort of a long drive up there. It's a balance between wanting to find them at peak bloom and spending lots of gas!
and after being flowers they turn into little fruits ( in Mexico called tuna). They are very sweet and juicy and full of seeds. We used to buy a full gallon bag for a couple of pesos back in 1973-1975. They were sold on the streets. The women that sold them were experts in getting all the spines off. The flat leaves become "nopales" in the same way. those can be found in Latino stores and many Mexican restaurants.

Tuna is so yummy! I used to go to the market daily to get some. And nopal is very nutritious!
These are beautiful Kathy!
Wow, that is a lot of buds. Nice set.

Thank you. I don't think I've ever seen a nopal that full of buds - at least not all over itself!
Nice promise of things to come, Kathy!

Hi Kathy, I have been on a long trip down to Chile with Patagonia, the Atacama and Easter Islande, came back about a month ago and was totally immersed in working on these pictures to get at least a highlights album done. I am 99% completed, hopefully can finalize things by Friday, as I still need assistance from my nephew up in Canada to actually put the link live, hopefully he will teach me on Friday on how to do it.
Got to hurry as in two weeks we will be airborne again over to Europe to see our families and catch a few new corners and places, we will start out in Lisbon, get to know a few places in Extramadura in Spain right near the Portuguese border, and then make our way up through Spain and France to Switzerland - we are very much looking forward to it, but still have the hassles to get ready, so unfortunately no time to drop in on UHH. The other day, when the computer was doing a longish upload, I briefly dropped in on UHH and saw yours and a few others post - hopefully I will have more time later in the year. Take care, Kathy!

So good to hear from you and catch up on your gravels. How wonderful to get to see Chile and Patagonia. And your upcoming trip sounds wonderful! I have never been to Portugal, but have traveled Spain and would love to return. And to go up over the Pyrenees and into Europe would be wonderful!
