The B&W wins for me with points removed for too much stuff to look at. The clouds are taking over.
It now looks like a winner. Good job.
Title: Falling Pier. Picture: Falling Pier, bush, odd building or two, radio mast.
I'd have gone for a more-focussed approach; gone further down the boulders maybe?? Shoes off and in the water may have given better focus on pier.
The color could be improved: a bit of basic saturation would help with this maybe ?? Lots of good basic stuff like that on a PC.
Monochrome looks very arty. That is not done on Ilford film, and Ilford paper - and good for it. That edgy surreal feel, esp in the clouds, looks like using a green filter on B/W film. 'Cos there's soooooooo much E-psychadelia available on progs there's a temptation to over-use

It screams for black and white. IMO ,crop part of the rocks at the botton and the background on the top and make the falling bridge or whatever the central focus.
Here is what I would have done, if you don't mind my playing with it.

Don't like the crop on the top and bottom as it removes a lot of the interest and drama to the photo. Removing the tower in the middle was good.
I like the B/W. Good work with SilverEfex.
B&W for me. To me the B&W takes some of the background "clutter" and makes it more meaningful (if that makes sense?).
I like both but prefer the BW Thought I would try something over the top to see what you think.
color one for me...too much sky and foreground....jmo...

Cropped a bit too much of the top off?

Loc: St. Louis burbs, but originally Chicago burbs
I really don't think you need anything above the old pier, maybe even PP out the fence in the background. There should be only one center of interest, IMHO.
I like the subject matter but I have to be honest with you. The color seems muted and nothing "pops". The contrast is all messed up in the b&w just look at the clouds and also along the pier. Just my opinion and I am always wrong as you can tell by the rest of the replies. Lol.
I like them both, but I prefer the color one. I think that color photo might look better if it were brighter.
The last one is best, but to me still looks better with about half the sky cropped out. Nice one either way.
