I have been using a "preview" release of Windows 11, but admittedly not with any photo processing software. Still, I would probably not move to Windows 11 immediately if your livelihood and sanity depend on product stability. I think it would be best to let the pioneers* shake it out first.

!!!!!

Yeah, early adopters test what the beta testers missed...

Adobe says that every app has required specifications that include the operating system. The newest subscription versions of Photoshop and the Lightrooms have been tested. The 2022 version of the Elements apps have been tested.

Older versions may not run. Plugins? That will be up to the plugin makers.

Although I've go current versions, I'm not upgrading to Windows 11 until I have to.

I guess you don't care about security updates. Windows 7 has so many vulnerabilities. I am working on a new resource center project and am removing Windows 7. These computers are all 2015 through 2019 Dell computers. I have been in the tech industries since the late 70's and people don't realize what a hack or mallard can do.

I haven't loaded Windows 11 as my primary operating system but have run in a virtual environment. There have been quite a few things that have improved various processes and it is speed has been increased. I will load it as my primary OS after the first major patch.

Microsoft has had a lot of issues with new versions of the operating system in the pass. Remember what happened with W8. So, because I do not use intensively the operating system, W10 is ok for me and I will wait until everything is tested to start thinking in an update.

I am using right now an HP laptop that I bought in 2012 with Win 8. I upgraded to all the newer versions thru the years and have used Win 11 since the pre-release. I now have the final / official release and it runs without a glitch with all my softwares i.e: Adobe, Affinity, Nikon suite/studio latest, Gimp without a problem. Some applications updated to the latest version automatically the first time I launched them. And the performance is at least 45% better without any harware upgrade.

The hardware is 9 busy years old.

I am potentially interested, but a new gaming computer bought this summer fails the test. Store told me yesterday they had sold out of that model and no one else had even asked the question. May or may not he fixable with a change in BIOS settings.
As I have read, 11 is strictly 64 bit, so if you have 32 bit software or a 32 bit version installed, it won't work. If this is not correct, please correct me. If true that would be my real worry, as while I always choose 64 bit, I don't know what I might have that isn't. Certainly on this site people often mention old stuff they like and use.

Problem with not upgrading is at present Microsoft plans to stop supporting 10, no security updates, in just few yrs as store confirmed.

This update stuff is getting ridiculous, last night I looked into getting Paramount+. Found it only works on smart TVs and for many brands only those made in maybe last 5 yrs. I have no intention of relacing every tv, monitor, computer, phone etc. every 5 yrs or even sooner because firms decide it's a great way to make money.

Win 11 is Intel hardware agnostic. It works on 32 or 64 bits platforms. The applications in 32 bits format will be faster but not as much since there is a mapping/conversion taking place at execution time.

Faster is better - I will try it on my test bed, benchmark before and after and post the results.

That is not true. It was written for both Intel and AMD CPU's and GPU's. There was an error in the code which caused the Level 3 cache to fail on certain calls. Microsoft has already released the patch to the insider channel and AMD is working on a bios change to make this process to be better handled by the processor. Prior to Ryzen there was better performance by Intel CPU's but AMD have been eating Intel's lunch in the laptop market and a hefty increase in the data centers. While Intel will probably always be better in single threaded performance they have a long way to go with multiprocessor performance, where AMD shines. I used to used Intel CPU'S but it took them 4 years to get to 10nm CPU's and they are looking for TSMC to make smaller processor. Just because they are going to produce CPU's they will probably go through growing pains for a couple of generations before they have things dialed in. By that time AMD will be using 4nm chips with some 3nm chip for offloading discreet processes. AMD is getting ready to release a refresh of their current chips with 3D vCache which will increase data in and out.

AMD’s finer traces and more cores per die (at the expense of higher power) are causing a real resurgence in their business, but the people building the really big Exascale machines are hedging their bets. Of the 2 ExaFlop machines being assembled at Oak Ridge and Argonne, one is AMD based and one is Intel. Another interesting trend is that HPE (HP enterprise), who was not even a player in large clusters or Petaflop machines which were mostly IBM BlueGene Power CPU or Cray machines a decade ago, are now building those ExaFlop machines. Most big machines are using Infiniband or NVidia interconnects, are utilizing a large percentage of GPUs (typically NVidia) and the venerable Lustre parallel file system still dominates HPC.

It never occurred to me to load it in a virtual environment. That’s a great idea. Thank you.

Windows has a track record of every other upgrade being good. That said, I'll sit this one out.

Have any of you hoggers heard of or have first hand knowledge of conflicts between Windows 11 and Adobe products? What about conflicts between Windows 11 and the usual plugins that we run in Photoshop and Lightroom?

I subscribe to an on-line digital forum. The unanimous advice is: WAIT before taking the plunge. Given that Microsoft, after 6 years of updating Win 10, has managed to screw up almost every update and having to immediately issue corrections despite the length of time that OS has been on the market, why should we expect Win 11 to be nice and pretty on its first runout?
