I checked the specs to make sure. The D780 doesn't have:

IBIS
EVF
support for non F-mount lenses
support for Z lenses
Focus Peaking
Focus Assist
Eye-tracking AF

Really seems like this 'child' has all the benefits of a DSRL and none of the game-changing benefits of a MILC....

You are correct on all counts. The only thing that D780 has in common with mirrorless is phase detect autofocus when the mirror is up.

Since EVF, Z lens mount, support for non F-Mount lenses are part of MILC and therefore shouldn't be in this list. Just say'in is all.

Bottom line for me (and only me) is that having tried one MILC along with an adapter for my numerous Nikon lenses, I did not see where MILC would yield any better results (again for me). And with 4 DSLR bodies with low shutter counts, I probably won't live long enough to require an MILC..... although when lugging the D850 around I do occasionally think about a 22.3oz Zf. But like most GAS, I just wait long enough and it passes.

If the lens you have will work on the 850 they will also work on a Nikon mirrorless with the FTZ adapter. I have a D750 and 850 and I use their lens on my Z8.

Putting a DSLR lens on a Mirrorless camera with a bulky adapter makes as much sense as pulling the Budweiser Beer Wagon in a parade with the 20 Mule Team asses. It will work, but it don't look good, and it ain't gonna sell no Beer.

I have Nikkor lenses up to 800mm. The larger lenses spend most of their time on a D850, often on a tripod.

My Zfc has a few small lenses, and an old fashioned leather case with strap.

It works well for me.

Do you think they will make the 850 for a couple of months ? I would like to hold off till then because they always have great deals

I think they will make occasional production runs until they decide to stop. The Japanese way of doing things is to turn the spigot off while some demand still remains. $2100 or $2200 is a great value for a D850. Waiting might work, but it is a gamble. I do not think Nikon sees any problem with leaving some unsatisfied demand.

And I don't know how you feel about buying used. My feeling is that most used D850s worth having have probably already been offered for sale and purchased by their new owners. Mine would be a good value for someone, but they will never be sold unless my estate sells them instead of directing them to the recipient I have named.

I can tell you that my experience is that a majority of the D500s being offered for sale right now by individuals are not worth buying. I actively look for them for gifts and have been having very little luck in recent months. Most are way too close to being worn out. Don't know if that is going to happen with D850s or not.

Do you feel that Z body sales are done, so good used D850s for sale must also be done?

Great Reply Dennis!!.....I am so sick of tired ~~of hearing why & why not to purchase or purchase certain Cameras~ A simple answer is: Purchase whatever makes you happy Now~~Or, in the Future! I still shoot, on occasion, with a vintage Rollie TLR and a Minolta Autocord and have~~ and still do~~ (No bragging-just truth!) produce some Awesome Images! The simple truth is~~The camera is a Tool!~~The image Quality "rests Primarily in the hands of the Photographer"! And "the proof of the pudding"~ "rests in the eyes of the Beholder"!
PERIOD!

If you can't succeed with a mirrorless camera, you're not a photographer.

I think that the rabid demand for Z cameras is pretty quickly levelling off, indicated by a very attractive current (or recent) sale on the Z8 and the sale notification I received this morning for the Z9.

This really isn't anything new. I personally remember manias around the D500, the D850, the Z7, the Z9, and the Z8. There was also some less intense hyperventilation around the Zfc, the Z30, and some other consumer models in recent months and years. Seems like the D750 and D780 generated quite a bit of drooling as well, and I bet it was the same for the D810. So they have created a sort of feast or famine marketplace, which can work, but can also be kind of risky.

I do not like the mirrorless because I have a lot of Nikon lenses that I can’t use on them Also I believe the 850 is a workhorse and also easier on batteries

The D850 is a great camera. Perhaps the best, or one of the best DSLRs ever made. I use mine all the time. I keep mine for the same reason. I have the good DSLR lenses, and mirrorless products aren’t that much of an improvement, if an improvement at all, in my opinion!

I don't care if it's mirrorless, DSLR, or TouchTone or dial telephone, the D850 is more technology for $2100 than pretty much anything else available today at that price.

Larry. I totally agree with you. I love my D850s The most robust and solid performing cameras I have ever owned. Mirror less Cameras feel like toys compared to a Tank solid DSLR. I am a professional photographer and the Nikon D850 has never let me down. Weddings, portraits. Real estate work and business photos. It's my work horse. And todays price for a new Nikon body with 45mp and every feature you would ever need. Can't be beat.

The D850 in question is the final and best full-frame Nikon DSLR they could create. But, this relic has been surpassed by even the entry-level MILC models in terms of newer processors and an overall better shooting process. At 45MP with a number of cutting-edge shooting features, it is the apex DSLR in the Nikon line. As an apex model, and the even more rugged D5/D6 flagship models, these cameras can / should last forever. As 7+ year old designs, though, they're now behind the technology curve. That doesn't make them inferior, just not worth buying new. Only pay 'new' prices for new models, with 'new' features you can't find in any other older model.

Well, I own two D850s, one I purchased used and I recently purchased one new on sale. I realized when I purchased these DSLRs that newer technology was available in mirrorless cameras. I have never been one who felt the need to have the latest and greatest of anything. I prefer time tested quality that satisfies my needs. If the latest and greatest makes you happy, you will ALWAYS be one purchase away.......JMHO.
