We now live in the middle Kansas, surrounded by wheat fields, down to earth people that still trust each other, and will drop what they are doing to help you if needed. Hard to ask for more...
We also love the peace and quiet :)
Hi Shellback. Are you near the Flint Hills? I love the (so-called) "flatlands" of the Great Plains and no exactly why the song speaks to "Amber waves of grain..."
I've "worked" archaeological sites around the Flint Hills, but I'm most familiar with the western part of Kansas and the NW corner (where I have in-laws and I used to hunt bird) I've been to El Cuartelejo many times - even "delivering" sacred items for my Puebloan friends. I have worked in "undeveloped" parts and have even been in the Kiva that the State of Kansas has (for good reason) kept buried.
Gotz a soft spot in my heart for Sharon Springs, Monument Rocks, Scott City and many other places. I've had each of my kids, at one time or another "climb" Mount Sunflower!
