How do I set my Canon Rebel EOS T3i to take firework photos. I don't have my book. I know it's something about bulb setting. I do have a remote

Thanks - Debi

Girl, look at the post, "How to shoot Fireworks".
Use bulb 3-5 seconds, ISO 100, f8 and a tripod. That'll get you started. ;-)

Don't forget a cable release or remote control. It's not a good idea to keep your finger on the shutter release button because the beating of your heart will cause camera shake. In general, no matter what subject you shoot, if you're serious about photography and image sharpness, always use a tripod and a cable release or remote release of some kind. This is one of the most valuable lessons I've learned from 40 or so years of photography.

On my Nikon bulb means the shutter stays open as long as you hold it down. In manual you can set shutter speeds of 3 to 5 sec. That seemed to work for me.

Also turn off autofocus and set it manually to infinity.

I used a tripod for ground displays and handheld at 2 sec for Aerials.

50 mm without VR.

Worked OK.

I shoot fireworks about the same as lightning at night: 3 - 5 seconds (with a shutter release), f11, ISO 100. Works well for me!

I purchased a 40 mm (about $100.00) for fireworks, also a good normal lens. If I guessed wrong about distance from fireworks, I have a 18-55 Zoom alternate. Not as sharp.

I use ASA 100, F16, exposure 3 seconds on a firm tripod for my Rebel T3i.

Set your lens to infinity using some distant objects and then turn the auto focus off. If you adjust the zoom you may have to readjust the focus.

If you can trial and error it in the daylight, so you know which way it goes, turn it all the way in the distance direction and back off a smidge. I can never recall which way it goes on the lenses that don't have the distance scale. And I know such things can vary by camera manufacturer. For example my Sony lenses go on "righty tightie"...but Nikon lenses go the other way. Both are made in Japan so I don't think the fact they drive on the wrong side of the road (we driven on the right side, right?) has anything to do with it.

I shot fireworks on the 3rd and the 5th (both worked out a lot better than last year. I used settings from a talk at one of my photo club meetings. F16, ISO 100, tripod, bulb, cable release - don't have one...used a remote. Inconvenient but it worked, exposures 3-12 sec. here are some I took last night.
