I will be traveling very long distances by backpack throughout Europe. I am looking for recommendations on absolutely stable but lightweight and transportable tripods that don't cost a lot. I would even be open to renting it if it is economical. Thanks

I own two Manfrotto tripods. This one is superb for travelÂ….
Manfrotto MKBFRA4D-BH Befree compact lightweight grey tripod for travel photography with ball head.
Maximum height: 56.7 inches
Minimum height: 15.7 inches
Weight: 3 pounds
Maximum payload: 8.8 pounds
Amazon List Price: $199.99
I have a mefoto and i used in it SE asia and sadly a lot of my images appeared blurry or were unusable. I've been shooting for years so i know how to focus, etc. Also when I've traveled with my much larger tripod, i don't have creep or the same issues. I use mainly a 6d and a 24-105 with 2 filters at max and this is my heaviest setup.
I have the smallest MeFoto, which collapses to just over 12". No complaints.

Gitzo and Really Right Stuff - the last word in light stable tripods - often imitated never duplicated. And they are rentable.
Why not share the EQUIPMENT you want to mount on the tripod?
Then you could collect suggestions appropriate to the gear you will be carrying. As you say you are backpacking, I would guess you will be traveling light, but I'm guessing you will haul something bigger than a point and shoot.
Sorry I notice your second post.
You are only mounting 3 pounds, camera (680g) + lens (670g, both from Canon website).
I have the older Manfrotto 785B, replaced by the Compact Action which supports this weight comfortably. I also use a remote release to decrease any shake from "operator interference." I bought this model because it folds down to less than 18", weighs about 3 pounds and is inexpensive.
