Hi. Is anyone on this forum willing and able to go out and shoot with me in Peoria, Illinois? I just moved here from beautifully photogenic Oregon and I am finding myself at a loss. Don't ask why I moved here! I know..haha..anyway, I would love to meet some of the fellow photogs and go out and explore, etc..thanks..

Not better, not worse, just different. Within a few hour drive you'be got the mighty Mississippi River tot he West and the Wisconsin Adlles to the North. And Madison Wisconsin is a great place for the Lake and forest and a never ending street scene--without the scruffy.

Winter time is great to go over to the locks on the Mississip and shoot eagles. Or for that matter, down to the lock on the Illinois at Ottawa.

Look for a local club. Look at google earth and see what posted shots are in your area. Set yourself a routine of going photographing one afternoon/evening a week. Buy a dog. If you lack confidence buy a big dog. If you lack skill then practice, self criticism and research works better than a buddy (different kit/different taste/questionable skill etc). Failing all that spend cash on training courses.
Have fun

Go up to the galena area. It is very much like New Zealand in topography and quite pretty. Then go into downtown galena which is quite picturesque. Then drive about fifteen miles west to the Mississippi River and Dubuque, Iowa. After that venture into southwestern Wisconsin. The areas above make for great photography

Alyn,

Being a 25 year resident of Peoria, I have to respectfully disagree. We have an abundance of birds - we are in the Mississippi Flyway and get a variety of migratory birds, including eagles. Wildflowers and prairie land; barns and old farm equipment, just to name a few.
Come visit sometime.
