I'm initiating this thread with the hopes of accumulating a list of outstanding camera stores throughout the country. We are all aware of the great camera stores in New York, but there are still those hangers-on throughout the country that will let you test lenses right out of the box as well as rent lenses. In the Dallas area it's Arlington Camera in Arlington, TX....almost under the shadows of Jerry Jones Stadium and the Ranger Ballfield as well. I'll post the link to their website. If you have a camera store you'd like to post, please do so. Perhaps when they've all been posted a new thread could be compiled with a state by state listing.

In Seattle, WA the premier Glazer's Photo. They recently completed building a new shop that has ample square footage, a tremendous array of gear, professional assistance, camera repair and rental services. For those living in the Seattle area, I recommend that you go for a visit.

Shutterbug Camera in Santa Rosa and Petaluma California, here in beautiful Wine Country.
My first great camera store encounter was Columbus Camera Group in Columbus Ohio. They were located in an old (big) church near the campus. Checked recently... They are still there in the old church.
Midwest Photo Exchange is in the general Columbus area.
Surprisingly, checking the area there seem to be a good half dozen camera stores doing well in the area around Columbus in Ohio.

Outside of Philadelphia Pa, in Levittown, there is a store called Allen's Camera. They cater to pros, always have the lasted gear, have a good selection of used, and have knowledgeable folks. Other than it's distance from me, I love this shop. Second generation.
With a pro lab built just a few years ago outside the store and just two blocks away, there is ProPhoto Supply in Portland Oregon.
http://prophotosupply.com/Then there is the Newspace Center for Photography which is not a store per se, but a training center-gallery-gathering place, etc. for photography. Relatively new. Downtown Portland

The Photo Lab in Schenectady, NY. I've bought three DSLRs and at least six lenses from them as well as filters, monopod, camera bags, etc. I like to try things out. If I bring in my camera they will hang a lens on it for me to see if I am interested. Tom and John are great to deal with.

There is no doubt that B@H is a great camera store but I have lived in NYC for three years and there are many other great camera stores, Adorama comes to mind first with two stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
I hope a New Yorker would provide us with a current list. A variety of stores with specialized interests provides the camera enthusiast with many options of discovering hidden treasures, older equipment, specials, and the hunting adventure.
UHH could now provide us with a current list of Real Camera stores in the US (identified as professional), as well as tourist traps to avoid (identified as amateur like 42nd Street).
This way, after paying our respects to B@H, we could go hunting in NYC!
Precision Camera in Austin, TX Southeastern Camera in Raleigh, NC Oops... well now that I have also mentioned Precision, that should say something. Love those guys.

Seawood Photo which lived in San Anselmo, CA since 1947 but moved to a larger store in downtown San Rafael, CA a couple years ago. Seawood has all manner of photo gear both for sale and rental. Very knowledgeable sales people. The still have a film department with tanks, enlargers, and trays for printing.
Seawood also has one of the largest collections of historic cameras outside of a museum.
