Note that at the wider angles, there is virtually no difference in dof, so sometimes you can save a couple of stops with ISO by setting aperture at smallest number for that focal length - it loves a low ISO :) If I am going to use for landscape, I use shutter priority or P, with goal to keep ISO at 80 or 100 (shutter priority because I've started to wobble a bit).
There is a shortcut button on the back. I set that to toggle among jpg only, jpg + raw, raw only.
Other settings I like:
display area - small
digital zoom - off
AF - flexi zone
continuous AF - on
For moving critters or birds:
HQ burst mode (not available in raw): knob on top to SCN, fnc button on back to that choice.

Linda, I had been contemplating either the SX50HS or the SX60HS but when I heard the price Canon wanted to the refurbished SX50HS I ordered it on the 5th and just received it today. The battery is charging at this time and I will see if I have time tonight to take a few shots. I seem to remember you posted, quite some time back now, some tutorials and info on the SX40 and 50 to help understand the menu process. If you could PM me a short list of those to help me get a quick handle on this camera I would be most grateful. I shot Canon EOS T3i for about 6 years as well as Nikon and Pentax so hopefully I can become a fast learner here. I have seen way too many great images posted from this camera that for $150 I couldn't resist not getting my hands on it. AAny help and guidance you offer will be muchly appreciated
I just placed my order, had been looking at them for a couple of years now, just could not pass up the price drop.
My update on the Win 7 was the quickest of the three
My two were both Win 8.1 and the neighbor's was Win 7
I updated both my laptop and my AIO desktop over the weekend and my neighbor's laptop yesterday, and all went smooth as silk and all three. It took about 3 hours on each one and I never once lost any data, programs or settings. I had over 900 GB's of backup from the three but never once had to access any of it. Microsoft has this worked out very well.
This information may help explain the process

I just switched to a D3200, ordered 1, got and was charged for 2 so waiting for a refund so I need to make a quick turn on my Canon system to cover my extra outlay. This will be a good buy for someone. Spread the word so I can get this sold.
I have just reduced the price of this whole system to $400.00 in hopes of a quick sale. If interested you can contact me at gfwooden@gmail.com
Thanks for this post, I am a new subscriber to PSCC 2015. Trying my best to get a handle on it all.
It is a nice little ride, done it a couple of times with the grandkids.

Yes they will, where are you in "the swamps of east Texas", we should not be too far apart?

What is the shutter count?
You can see in this photo the shutter count reflects 4464, however the count has rolled over once so the accurate count is 14,464 as of a couple of minutes ago when I took the test shot
