Need some advice. I was thinking of signing up for LR classic but I keeping emails from TOPAZ AI that make it sound great.

My camera gear is canon 7Dii, 60D and R5 with 100-400L II, Sometimes I use a canon 1.4 extender on the 100-400 but after installing firmware 2.0.0 on my R5 the images are no longer tack sharp. My primary subjects are birds and wildlife

The real question should be 'Lightroom with Topaz add-ins'. Lightroom/Photoshop do(es) the heavy lifting for postprocessing and Topaz comes to the rescue for DeNoise, Sharpening, Resizing. Topaz on it own is very limited.

I use all of Topaz's offerings, including their Video Enhance AI software. All pretty decent.

Fired up the QHY 715C and Lunt 60 on the Evolution mount this morning and shot some 1000 frame video sessions of Ol' Sol. Used a 2.5x PowerMate on the two biggest sunspots regions. Also shot the biggest prominence at the moment.

Enjoy!

I think I'm giving up on DaVinci resolve. The main reason I wanted to use it was to sync audio from several cameras. Unfortunately, I've run into a common problem. I'll look up a YouTube tutorial showing how to do that, but it was made two or three years ago, and the program has changed since then.

"Right-click and select Audio Sync." When I right-click, Audio Sync is nowhere to be seen. The Menu system is slightly different, so the tutorials are basically worthless. I'm still going to play around with it, but I'll continue to use PowerDirector and sync the sound as best I can.

Saturday night, I'm filming a play using three camcorders and a Tascam for audio. I like a challenge.

I also gave up on DaVinci Resolve. Adobe Premiere does a very nice job of any video processing I have to do.

Interesting.
I've never had a problem.
But I have Sandisk adapters.

All of mine were either Kingston or Lexar; now all in the garbage.

This is obviously from my February trip to Yellowstone. I have more of this pine marten I just have to get them worked! They are so fast and zip through the trees like crazy. It was hard just to get focused on them!

Great captures!

I was just wondering which would be better. sd cards or micro sd cards in an adapter?

I've had nothing but trouble with micro sd cards in adapters! The adapters are crap! and keep losing connection with the micro sd card. Never had a problem with a micro sd card by itself or a normal sd card.

Note the banding visible in both images (unless you have a 10-bit display).

But you would not see the banding on a print from the TIFF.

The solution is to export the image for printing as a 16-bit TIFF, make your print(s) and then delete it to save space. You can always export it again if you want to make more prints.

However, this will only work if you create the 16-bit TIFF directly from the raw data, preferably 14- or 16-bit raw. It will not remove banding from a JPEG.

I don't see any banding in either Download example.

The GPS is built into the car. Updates are not free. The map is on a disk (I think it's under the driver's seat). Last I checked I could purchase a new disk from the dealer with a new map (probably not more than one year out of date) for about $250. I use Google maps on my phone and the map is updated continually. It doesn't cost me anything (directly -- I'm sure Google finds a way to monetize it all).

And the program is built into the car. I expect it is possible to update the program to improve the algorithms, but again, it's something that the dealer has to do. And it will cost.

Interesting, our dealer updates the GPS database at every service for nothing.

I suggest you look up the computer called Eugene...doing a heck of a lot more than repetetive tasking.

They are starting to learn on their own now.

Just like toddlers...they get instructions from their parents...but at some point...they create their own.

Same thing is happening with computers...and especially quantum computers.

They are...growing up.

I believe there is a bias for humans when regarding a computer.

Can an Octopus think? Most folks would say yes.
A computer can match an octopus...yet...we don't want to give it the same regard as the Octopus.

The computer Eugene seems to have passed the Turing test...and if it doesn't...other will soon enough.
The advancement of computers is not linear...computers will surpass us at some point.

As you say, "computers will surpass us at some point". The real question is "What happens after this point?".

While AI is an interesting technology in the world of photos, videos, search engines, advertising, etc. etc., and with a myriad of legal and ethical concerns, it is my belief that there is NO SUCH THING as Artificial Intelligence.

I have used AI to produce strange and weird images, and will likely continue to do so...because it's fun!

Before retirement, I was in the IT field for many decades, and back even in the 2000's, the term and delivery of AI was in its infancy. It was the belief then, as now, that AI is produced by humans, humans writing computer programs, and as such takes on the characteristics and leanings of its authors/developers. A computer cannot think, it is just a series of 0's and 1's, created by some human, with a myriad of IF-THEN-ELSE logic. A computer cannot have emotions. When an AI deliverer want his program to react in a certain way, he programs it that way...it is a reflection of the developer. Such it is with AI that has permeated the world today.

While the term and delivery of AI is here to stay, we should always remember that in using AI, we are catering to the whims of the developer(s). We should not assign "intelligence" to a machine that can have no intelligence.
While AI is an interesting technology in the world... (show quote)

You're correct for the moment. True AI doesn't yet exist; however, at some point it will... Just like at some point homo sapiens didn't exist but here we are.

The images below were taken on the evening of 4/19/2024 at a 4064mm focal length using a full frame DSLR in 4K video mode. Since the full image wouldn't fit into a single frame multiple videos were taken each around 2 minutes long. For each video ~ 50% (~1800) of the best frames were stacked to improve the image to reduce the atmospheric turbulence. The stacked images were then combined into a single image of the entire moon. The first image is the moon as it appears to the eye. The second image has the color greatly enhanced to bring out the subtle colors on the lunar surface. Both images required some compression to fix under the 20meg limit.
All questions comments and suggestions are welcome.

I much prefer the 1st image; much more natural. However, the color enhanced version is nicely artistic...
