Another from my summer of Milky Way Photography. The Church is St. Milo on Hwy 7 outside Estes Park, Colorado. On this night I woke up at about 2 a.m. to find a clear sky after an evening of heavy rain. I love this little church and have photographed it many ties, but never under the Milky Way. Since the MW was very clear I drove the 45 minutes to the site of the church and took this photo at about 3:30 a.m. (the time stamp on the photo is wrong because I forgot to change the camera to mountain time.) The slights red glow on the mountains to the right is the first light of the new day just beginning to break over the eastern rim behind my camera position. The vast number of stars is what drew me to this shot. The soft light on the church is from a setting quarter moon. Camera setting are ISO 4000, F2.8 and 20 seconds on the shutter. Focal length is 24mm. While shooting this series of shots a coyote came over the hill behind me and actually walked to with in 15 feet of where I was standing. I first noticed him when the red glow of my night flashlight lit his eyes. We both had a nice chat and then went about out business.
With all the stars (anyone who counts them correctly, gets a free print----GOOD LUCK!) and the rising of the Milky Way over the church I thought the title Amazing Grace fit.--I'm open to suggestions for a change.
Hope you enjoy the image.
