Hi all, first things thank you all for your response.here is my scenario. I was taking pics of my granddaughter dance recital.was using 7d2 with 70-200 2.8 lens . they didn't allow anyone to go to rehearsal ahead of time to scope the auditorium out. I stood at the back with a mono pod, shooting between 100-200 mm in manual 3.5 and auto ISO and TV at 1/500 sec. this was her first recital at 4 yrs old most of the dances she pretty much stayed in place front to back. most of my pics were in focus just some were def out.so in camera I looked for the focus point. I was in ai servo w BBf. since she was pretty "much static front to back". when I held the BBf button in she def was in focus and most were also in focus when I release the button which I believe it should have maintained, but some were out . this is what led to my op of any way to see focus point in camera after releasing the BBf button in ai servo . maybe I just moved and not a focus issue though at 1/500 sec it should not be. Anyway thank you all for the posts on this subject bill

Hi everyone own a 7d/m2 and the last few months I have been using back button focus and I love it. at first I thought something was going on with the camera, here's the thing. when I am holding down the BBf button and release the shutter, the camera shows where the focus point is, but now taking another pic you press the BBf button to focus then release the BBf button then release the shutter, the focus point does not show up when reviewing the pic. is this just a quirk of BBf or does anyone know how to get around this so the focus point always stay active (the menu has it enabled in both cases) thanks for any insight on this bill

Hey there island gal in the past when I received a new lens and put it on a body I thought I was good to go . When I bought my 16/35 2.8 and put it on my 7d m2 I could not get a real sharp pic so I did a micro adjustment witch helped with the focus since then canon came out with a firmware update to correct it, but back to the point, all of my lens I now do a micro adj to match lens to body. that's what I will do to all future lens that I will buy .if you're interested in getting sharp focused pics I would try it and see how far off you're lens/body combo is if any at all . At least that takes away any mechanical issues with focus In my opinion. Good luck

hi all about four years ago i bought the canon 7d with the 24-70 2.8 and i had the 100-400 version 1 lens from years ago when i bought it with my rebel xti. last year i traded the 7d for the new 7d mark2 and bought the 16-35 2.8 with it. when i started taking pics with the m2 and the 16-35 i noticed the focus was always not sharp so i did a micro adjustment and then i was happy with it,a few months later canon came out with a firmware update and one of the updates was to fix focus issues with the 16-35, since i was happy with the micro adjustment i did not do the firmware update. now with the 100-400 i was always un happy with focus on all three camera bodies so now i did a micro adjustment and all is good now. with the 7d m2 you can do a adj at both ends of the zoom range. i guess my question will be, is this commom with all canon bodies and there lens. is this really acceptable? the 100-400 i had to go +16 and +20 to get satisfactory results. Is Canon really happy with this or is this the nature of the beast with all manufactures nikon sony etc. i know posts in the past say you can send body and lens back to canon for adjustments but do we really need to do that? thanks for any comments or insight why this is. bill

Yes, just walking around if it is tight enough to stop the creeping or the bang when hanging off the shoulder, when an opportunity pops up to snap a pic it's just another step to loosen the ring to slide the zoom to compose I know I'm picky it's just I like the turn to zoom my other lens have

Hi jr, first of all you have some great pics there !! Guess I have the upgrade fever , never to stay ahead of new things . the 100/400 version 1 is a good lens it's just I don't like the push/pull collar for zoom. Again nice pics

Hi i do own the original lens sometimes I think the focusing could be sharper but that may be me and my own lack of skill. the thing that I don't like about version 1 is the push pull collar to zoom in and out, yes you can snug the locking ring down but when the lens hangs down it slides out sometimes with a pretty large bang if I'm paying attention. version 2 is a twist to zoom.i have the 24/70L &the 16/35L they are both twist to zoom so much better my opinion. I'm itching to sell ver1 and get version 2 myself but really can't justify the cost of upgrading when I still need the 70/200 this is my dilemma also the version 1 or 2 good luck

I had the 7d and upgraded not a bit sorry. so much more built-in,interval timer, better ISO etc etc. I would def say if you have the $ go for it. The only thing I wish it had is WiFi but canon say's because of the mag metal body the signal can't penetrant it. And touch screen but i never had a camera with one so I don't Miss it no big deal to me.learning curve is is in Dept but easily learned enjoy it if you go for it I have.

Hi all I deeply apologize for beating a dead horse here for asking another trypod question.I have read many many posts on this subject but I finally decided on one. I have a 7dm2 and my heaviest lens is the canon 100/400 including a Canon 600 exrt .the total weight of everything is close to eight lbs.the trypod I settled on the manfrotto mt055xpro3_3w. I just haven't decided on the pan/tilt head or the ball head ,I'm not sure the ball head could handle the long lens weight even with the lens collar on. b&h has both with trypod for $369. Any action shots will be hand held any static/portrait/panning would most likely be on trypod. any suggestions on the head choice would be a great help. thanks again for comments. Bill
