Sent the lens to Tamron repair center in NY yesterday. Spoke with them on the phone first and explained my problem. Let them know that I was the second owner. I mentioned a firmware update and they agreed that should solve my problem since the lens was mfg. before my camera was made. Will not auto-focus on a Nikon D7100 either in live mode. They were so nice a told me to send it to them and they would preform the firmware update to the lens as a courtesy. Seems like pretty good customer relations to me. Will reply on outcome.

It is NOT the lens. Many lenses will hunt and fish when left in AF mode and switched to live view. For me, I always switch my lenses to MF and focus manually when shooting in live view mode. I use AF only when using the view finder.

Steve,
Not doubting your statement but my other Tamron 16-300, Nikon 40mm macro and Nikon 35mm all auto focus in live view. I expected this one to do the same. If it doesn't, back it goes. At 70 I need all the help I can get.

Just curious if you have tried changing the Focus Mode setting from the "I" back button, AF-A, AF-S, AF-C, or MF Mode? May not have any effect, but another something I'd try while waiting to call Tamron.

Good Luck!

Thanks, I tried what you mentioned. I tried the lens on a friends D7100 today and it will not auto focus in live view on their camera either. I believe the issue is when this lens was purchased and the cameras that were mfg. after the lens was manufactured, Firmware update needs to be done on this lens. I will speak with Tamron on Monday and see if they can do the update on this lens so that it will work on my D5500. If not it will be sent back to the seller on ebay who seems to be willing to make it right. I hope so.

Looking into going backwards on the Nikon firmware from 1.1 which I have to 1.0 which was on the camera when I got it, I was thinking that it might be better to see if a Tamron service Facility could update the firmware on the lens instead. Tamron has what is called:
Tamron has announced the TAP-in console which enables firmware updates and customized setup for select lenses. Not sure that this lens can be updated or not. Would need to contact Tamron Monday. Thanks for the replies so far.

I have a Nikon D5500 and just purchased a used Tamron 60mm Macro Lens. The lens focuses fine when using the viewfinder. When I switch to live view the lens keeps searching in any camera setting. (auto, P, A etc) Auto is set on 39 focus points and all the others are set on single focus point. The following lenses I have all focus on live view. Nikon 35mm f/1.8, Nikon 40mm macro, Tamron 16-300mm. Has anyone else had a problem like this and a answer as what to do. It seems I need to return the lens to the seller on eBay. Why would live view have anything to do with it focusing?
Thanks,
Ron

bdk,
Adobe DNG converter takes care of editing raw in Elements 11. I have used this because 11 is no longer supported by Adobe with any updates.
Thought is was time to upgrade.

With most photo processing software the photos are stored in the Windows Pictures file. The photo processing software has the locations stored under its files. So when new photos are stored they can find the new ones. This is why Photoshop Elements will give a notification that new images are found in watched files and take time to locate them if loaded via some other program.

Got it. The flow process now makes better sense to me ( I think). When I use to stick my SD card into my laptop it would open Picasa. Getting the pictures from the card would download to Picasa and also Windows Pictures. That has stopped happening and I have to open up some program like Picasa or Elements to download the photo's to manually. Whatever I opened and downloaded the photo's to it would also be in my picture file in Windows. When I open Elements I would be getting the photo's from My Pictures in Windows. Hope I am explaining this correctly.
Thanks for this info. As you can see I am not great with computers, but get by.
Thanks,
Ron

I have PSE 10, 11, PhotoshopCC, LRCC, Gimp, FastStone and Nic filters. No conflcits - use them all. BTW - Just to clarify and assist. You photos are not "stored" in PSE 11 or PSE 15. You can view them in either Broswer. What ever filing system you use for uploading images from the memory cards are where they are stored on your hard drive. Same for Lightroom or any program for viewing images.

My photo's are stored to Picasa first. If I go from my SD card download directly to Elements I find they are also in Picasa. I use to download to Picasa first but found out this was not necessary. Is this what you are telling me?

I am assuming you back up the Catalog file itself, as well. This is critical if you use the Organizer to manage your images. You can find its location by clicking on Help > System Info from within the Organizer. This is often not done.

That is why I recommend to use the Backup/Restore commands within the Organizer itself.

Just did it. Found missing files and then ran as directed. Backup was successful.

I went from Elements 11 to 14 from an old PC to a new one with little hastle. Ran a full backup to an external drive, then restored that to my new C: drive. Be sure to remember that you're only going to restore the photos that are in the Elements catalogue. If you're not changeing PC's, this should not be a problem because you can always import them any time. When I changed PC's I lost a few that weren't already in my catalogue. No big deal because they were either repeats or rejects that I didn't want to edit. Now I load all my originals onto an external drive and then put them on the C: for importing to Elements.

Ordered yesterday. My laptop is not too old and runs windows 10. I back up everything to a external hard drive weekly. I should be good. Hope you don't see me in a week asking why its not working. that would mean that I'm not good. lol
Thanks for the response.

I need to get a newer version of Adobe Elements 11 due to my Nikon D5500, when I shot Raw, not being recognized by version 11. My question is are their any problems transferring my albums/files to the new version 15? 11 was the only version I ever had.
Thanks for any responses.

Only three. My first one was a $30 tripod I purchased a few camera's ago. Found out quickly why you need to spend quite a bit more. One desk top model. My newest is a Vanguard which I am pleased with although not carbon fiber. Two monopod's which I hardly ever use.

Just tried my D5500 purchased about 4-5 months ago. I don't have a R button either. Here is how I see the info you are looking for.
Turn camera on and press the info button on the back (is where the R button might have been) and the screen shows battery power and 999 for remaining photo's on my empty 16GB memory card. Hope this works for you.

Well done. Something else now I will have to try. Having CRS doesn't help.
