Taken with R6 & EF 16/35 2.8 ver 2. Just showing what the better l-type lenses can produce with the R6. Even my 70-200 2.8 ver2 and my100/400 ver2 work very well, with the exception of the weight & size. I personally can't justify the extra $

I have owned the canon 100/400 version 1 for over 10 years, granted i never took it out in very dusty locations. when i was zooming in and out I never made the adjustment with very fast motions and never had one bit of dust being sucked in due to the vacuum. last year i sold it and bought the new canon version 2, granted the quality is so much better but i hate it! the reason with the push/pull my left hand always had the lens supported and never had to remove it through out the full range of travel where as the twist to zoom in and out there is way to much travel and you have to rotate your wrist or use fingers either way you loose the support when finding and tracking your moving subject. If canon came out with a new version with push pull I would sell ver 2 in a heart beat and buy the new version

I'm looking at a few lens, and wanted to know if there was any pro's or con's to the two systems. Some of the lens are push/pull type for zoom and some other are "twist" to zoom. I was told that push/pull will force dust into the lens but the "twist" lens the barrell extends and retracts when you twist. amy input is greatly appreciated. Some of the len's I'm looking at:

Sigma / Tamron 100/400 150/600

Canon 100/400 Ver 1 and 2

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom I own the Canon version 1 100/400 now for at least 10 years. Can't tell you how many miles I walked through the woods, taken many years of football, soccer games on dusty fields, and many other non friendly environments for push/pull Len's. I never had any problem with dust getting in the Len's as many posts suggests it's a dust sucker also imop while holding the barrel with the left hand supporting the Len's it's easier to find your subject zoomed out then zoom in while still supporting it, as with the twist to zoom you're using two maybe three fingers and having some wrist action to zoom and loosing some support. My 70/200 version 2 is twist to zoom wish it is push/pull. If Canon ever comes out with a 100/400 push/pull
version I'll be the first to order it, you can't beat the new glass that is out there!!

Hi all going to my first air show this spring. i have a 7d/2 with a assortment of lens 3- 2.8 lens, 16/35, 24/70, 70/200, and ver 1 100/400. & 1.4 ver 3 extender. not sure how close they fly by the grandstands. my question is do i need a lot of reach with the longer lens or is a shorted reach better. or do i take a combination, but really don't want to take more than two lens.
also while i'm here asking is there such a thing as adapter that will allow my ver 3 1.4 conv to fit on my 24/70 ? if so would that be a possibility in this situation. thanks everyone for the insight bill

hi all, on my 7d/2 noticed i had a spot in the view finder so i took the lens off and looked at the mirror. i must say that i really never looked closely to the inside of the body. i have a brush and a rocket blower just in case i needed them, well the brush worked well and removed the dust i didn't need the blower this time. i have two questions. first question looking at the very bottom of the mirror there is a space that stays open and it looks normal to me is that normal? and the second which is more important when looking at that space that is what i think is one of the curtains if using a blower am i over thinking this, if your blowing dust off of the mirror will there be a chance of just moving the dust that was on the mirror to the curtain which will have a greater chance of jumping to the sensor when things are moving? any opp on blowers thanks bill

a little food for thought when i went to the canyon i had taken my 24/70 and the 100/400 with one body. it was easy switching back and forth but such a pain in butt not to mention exposing your sensor and back elements of you lens to the elements. if you were thinking about getting another lens maybe look for another refurb body instead. i know i missed a lot of shots because i was to lazy to do ANOTHER lens swap. there is some nice close up pics in in a wide angle pic
