I have the newest PSE edition and I am having a heck of a time with placing my images.

I want to print a 17 inch by 22 inch poster.

On that poster I'd like to place 15 photos. They all are different file sizes, but I'd like them all to look the same size on the poster.
Allowing for a title and footer, each picture should be about 5.5 in wide by 3 in high.

I've tried cropping the pictures to that size and I've tried resizing the images with no luck. Free transform works, but I can't seem to get the perfect picture size by dragging the handles.

What Am I doing wrong?

Yes that makes sense.

One of the events that I photograph is an annual ocean baptism of adults. I like to get shots just after each person resurfaces to commemorate their baptism. So the shifting sand makes a tripod difficult. However, I can crank up the speed to 1/1000 or so.

Agreeing with others, no, the 180L macro is not the lens you want for shooting anything beyond say 8-feet from the lens. The best value is either the EF 70-300 IS II, or the EF 70-200 f/4L.

Yes I was a little concerned that it is a macro lens. Thanks for your input CHG_CANON.

That is not the lens you want for shooting people at a distance, maybe consider a 70-200 instead or a 300mm f/4L. I have owned the Canon 180L and was not impressed, I replaced it with the Sigma 180 f/2.8, but even so, my intention for the lens was close up and macro, not really for telephoto use.

Currently there is a Canon 70-200 f/4L IS for sale in the Buy/Sell section of this site, that is an excellent lens, one of Canon's sharpest zoom lenses, sharper than my 70-200 f/2.8 IS II and the seller is only asking $600 for this excellent lens. It would serve you much better than would the macro lens.

Thanks for your suggestions Blurryeyed. I will look into those lenses.

I use either my 100-400L mkII or 70-300L but those are pricy and the mkII a bit heavy for some people.
I sometimes use a Tamron 180 macro with a Kenko Pro 300 1.4x on my Canon crop sensors to do small birds, butterflies and other bugs etc. around the yard. Being a macro it is very sharp but being a macro the AF is slow though I have read that the Canon AF is faster and more accurate than most macro lenses.

Thanks for your response and advice robertjerl.

Thanks for your response Basil.
I will definitely consider that lens.

I'm looking for a lens that will take crisp pictures of people and animals at a distance of 75 to 125 yards. Does anyone have experience with the subject lens? I currently own the Canon t3-I and the following lenses:Canon EF 24-105 L, Canon EF-S 10-22, Canon "Nifty Fifty", and the Tamron 18-400.

I suppose it might be "Operator Error", but I'm a little disappointed with the Tamron results.

If you have a suggestion for a lens that you feel will give better results than the Canon - EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM Lens, please let me know.

A lot better than I did.
Thanks.
Did you use the raw sliders or something else?

I am creating a slide s how for a friend from his snapshots taken over 50 years. Several of those pictures have an overwhelming orange cast. The pictures I'm having trouble with do not have decent gray, black or white areas. So the color cast section under the "Enhance" tab in Photoshop Elements does tot seem to help much.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to restore my orange photos?

Ladies And Gentlemen,
Here is an example of a photo I can't seem to fix.

I also have the Canon TS 9020. I find it to be a fine printer. I have owned it about a year or so and have used refillable cartridges right from the start, I have never had a clog or any problems with it. I use and am very happy with inkproducts.com. They offer ink plus clear empty cartridges which the printer recognizes as "original Canon cartridges". I can't see any noticeable difference in the quality of the output from the Canon ink. I have used this company for years with other printers that I have owned and find the customer service as good as the ink.

For those of you that use 3rd party ink cartridges in your small printers, who do you feel has the best quality? Not only in results but in performance. I have ordered a Canon TS 9020 to replace my present Canon MG 6220. This printer provided wonderful results on 8x10 prints until a 3rd party ink cartridge clogged the print head. I have had really great results from 3rd party inks in the past but not sure where they were purchased from. I prefer 3rd party inks if possible due to costs.

I appreciate you input.

Best tips I read so far aimed at a beginner!! Pertinent and understandable.

PGHphoto wrote:
1) Fill the frame with your subject
2) Don't put the main subject in the dead center of your shot
3) When shooting people, from a semi profile, leave more room on the side they are facing.
4) Ignore these rules when it makes a better composition or tells a better story

Daniel. Great job. Thanks for sharing. I have done a few restorations using Elements, but not nearly as good as what you presented here. I'd be interested mostly in how you were able to get the uniforms back to their proper shades from the whitish fading that we see in the original.

So I don't think I've seen this topic come up - although I'm sure it has at some point. I have been doing photo restoration from time to time and I wanted to post one of the more difficult projects I've done. I'd be interested in seeing other members work so if you would like to share; I look forward to seeing your work.

I think your question about the 10-22 was for me. I have not had much use for it, but I find that for the few photos that I have taken with it, that the clarity and sharpness is very good.
My walk around lens is the Canon 24-105 L lens. I actually like the quality of the 10-22 more. Please bear in mind that I am an amateur.

Bill,
Tell me about the 10 - 22. Sharp? (Center and corners), any lens artifacts?, IS?, any comparison to 10 - 24?
Thanks,
