I would say a Willet due to bill size and shape as well as the overall shape of the bird. Does it have a black and white pattern on the underwings when it flies?

Never got to see him fly. I looked at the cornell site and.....I think you're right. I'll call it a Willet until further notice.
Image stabilization. Different manufacturers call it different things but.....it helps overcome camera shake. In the case of the camera/lens I was using, the manufacturer claims that the IS gives you the ability to shoot, hand held, 4 stop slower that without the IS.
I'm sure there are better explanations available on the web but.......I think that's the gist of it.
gorgeous bird and shot...a very elusive bird for me...haven't had them sit still long enough...usually on telephone wires.
This guy was about 30 ft from the road and stayed put while I got the passenger window down and twisted around (with my seatbelt on) to get a shot. About two seconds later he was gone. I was in such an awkward position I thought for sure I'd blown the shot but......for once I got lucky. God bless 4 stop IS.
