An atheist is one who does not believe in a god, not one who knows all the answers to how everything got started.
We have no church. we have no belief. We have nothing to prove. Our ethics are usually the same as those in our geographical area.
If we are right, those who pray spend an awful lot of time talking to themselves, while we are enjoying the day!

Which is better?
1. live your life believing in God just to die and find out you were wrong.
2. live your life not believing just to die and find out you were wrong.
I believe this is slightly misstated.
1. Living your life believing in God just to die, and if God is not real, you will just be dead, with no thoughts.
2.Living you life without God just to die, and find out He is real?
I'll take my chances with #1.

That's fine, but have you investigated the evidence, or are are acting on a feeling?

So let me understand what you're saying here Jack.
You believe that a God may exist, you just don't happen to believe in Him. That's not atheist, that's agnostic.
Atheistic doctrine states that "God does not exist" or "there is no God"
The problem with making this statement is that one would need to know all there is to know about all things. Otherwise, God could exist outside your realm of understandingÂ…true?
So to make the statement "God does not exist" is an impossible statement. Unless of course you know all things.
And I'm sure we all agree that you don't know Jack.

I agree wholeheartedly with your rationale. I think it gives us all a good reason to treat each other as 'brothers' and get along.

I don't "believe" in atheism. I am an atheist. No evidence exists for the existence of deities.
There is no "church of atheism". You have made a null statement.
Correction- you "believe" no evidence exists for the existence of a deity. Until you can answer the original "why" and the brightest minds of our day can't... so I am absolutely positive you can't- you can really only have faith your atheism is correct. There is no definitive proof!
When you get together on the subject of religion with like minded zealots, you have a "gathering" of like minded people... that's what "Church" means. The "Church" of Latter Days Saints translates to The "Gathering" of Latter Day Saints. We all witnessed one of your "gatherings" in the first many posts to this thread with those who think like you, where you presented your sermon and demonstrated your faith based arrogance of being above those who hold religious beliefs that differ from your own - Faith because you don't know the "why", and thus you base your "belief" on the very same information as they do.
Henceforth, you are Father Off-Shore of the Church of Null.
LOL ( I can hear John Cleese saying that aloud!)

It's called FAITH! There have been times when prayers were answered, and times when they have not, at least not answered in the way I wanted. No solid evidence that I can hold in my hand, but again, it's called faith. That's how I was raised.

As for the rest, see my sig lines.
So you believe irrational things?
Your signature line:
"The only thing i'm not certain about is that nothing is certain...
"
Which of course is a self-refuting statement...aka irrational, making no sense.
As for belief in Evolution; it is most certainly a belief, not based on scientific fact...actual science is interested in things that are observable, and testable; none of which describes beliefs in origins.

Your talking and contradicting in circles.Hahahahaha...

I disagree, the Christian Faith IS evidenced based!

Science has tried to prove, for centuries, that God does not exist. That hasn't been done yet. Now, with the belief that our universe started with the Big Bang, these theorists believe that this event was engineered. Maybe we would have found the definitive answer if those scientists had tried to prove God does exist.
The British medical journal, "The Lancet", (possibly the world's most authoritative) published a Dutch paper on "Life after Death". That is tantamount to saying, "There is an hereafter".
What evidence?
It is called faith because it is not based on evidence!

It's called faith because it can't be "proved" to say there is no evidence is just a display ignorance.
