Once again, the SX50 comes through. Seeing this beautiful quality reminds me that this might be a good investment if I could achieve results like this.

Thanks for you wonderful comments, Vicki.

Tony, I am going to try a shutter release and a tripod with my SX50 HS before I give up on it and send it back to Canon, USA for evaluation. It could be that my tremors have progressed to the point where that is my only way to find out. I used the camera tonight after church at a youth fellowship chili cook-off and silent cake auction. I shot about 20 shots with this camera and 60-70 shots with a Pentax K50. I will download all the shots and compare the success rate between them. I know all the Pentax are in focus but I think before starting I lost at least 25% on the Canon, maybe more. After seeing all your great shots I do so want to be able to keep this little camera in my bag. Your images are proof that this is a powerful tool to have available, I may just not be able to shoot handheld with it. Thank you for your time and the lings to your articles, they are a great resource.

Hi Tony,
and thank you for sharing with us your impressive work!
Selecting the right tool for the given object is a condition for a successful image! I have been enjoying your collections for some time - always discovering something refreshingly pleasant! That is the way our photographs should be.

However, the question I would like to ask you: What makes your Canon SX50 HS design your preference among your other cameras?

Having several cameras of this particular class, I like the choices of a long delay shutter release feature on SX50 HS the most attractive one - if not just outstanding -
considering other cameras offering only 2-10 second delay?

Cheers!
Paul

Hi George,

That sounds like a great strategy before you decide to either call Canon Tech Support or send the camera back. I'm sure glad I had my older SX40 with me when my original SX50 failed during a vacation! I'm sure hoping you get things resolved since the SX50 is quite an addition to anyone's camera bag!

Hi Tony, I wonder if PS 14 which has a camera shake recover could help George. I don't know George's title. Thanks for all your great pictures and help to all of us. Bee

Hi Paul,

I've purchased every one of my Canon point-and-shoot cameras for a specific reason. My G11 was purchased for its excellent macro capabilities, the SX40 for its zoom, and the SX50 for its speed improvement and zoom capabilities over the SX40.

The SX50 from a technical standpoint is much improved over the SX40 with respect to lag time between shots, finer incremental adjustments in ISO & Exposure Compensation, the extremely effective Framing Assist - Lock, Superfine Jpeg, to name just a few examples. I believe the 12 megapixels to 50x (1200 mm) max zoom relationship is a nice balance for such a small sensor camera.

On the user end of the equation, my SX50 is so dependable that I can pull the camera out of the bag and within seconds lock focus and capture images like the ones of this Great Blue Heron I took today and have included here in this response. These were taken hand-held at near or maximum zoom and have not been cropped. The ability to quickly "focus and recompose" within a few seconds is something I really appreciate with this camera. These are just a few reasons off the top of my head as to why I prefer this crown jewel of my camera collection.

Best regards,

Tony

Hi Tony,

I want to tell you how much I appreciate your message!
Thank you!

Also, how much I agree with you about the advantages of the bridge cameras - as opposed to heavy and slow DSLR's while I am climbing, hiking or bushwhacking in the wilderness!
I wish some outdoor enthusiasts participating on UHH concerned about the weight of their photo equipment would take a note about this new class of extremely practical
cameras?

All the best, friend!

You're welcome, Paul. Here's a few more of my favorite moments with the SX50. The first image of the juvenile California Condor was a very exciting day. I hiked to an elevation of approximately 1,400 feet at Pinnacles National Park in California just to get the opportunity to photograph this amazing bird. It was one thing to photograph this juvenile condor but a completely different experience to hear the adult condors approach from behind me and perhaps only 10 to 15 feet directly overhead as they passed by me. They sounded like small aircraft! ItÂ’s my favorite moment in birding!

Best regards,

Tony
